Positively impacting others through mental health advocacy & education whilst raising over $90,000 for the Black Dog Institute.

The mission -

Bailey Seamer's "WANDERING MINDS WALK" is a testament to her unwavering commitment to mental health advocacy and education.

Over the course of a year from May 2022 to July 2023, Bailey trekked over 5000km along the east coast of Australia, from Wilsons Promontory to Cape York Peninsula, all while positively impacting others and raising over $90,000 for the Black Dog Institute.

Bailey followed foot trails & created many of her own through some of the most rugged terrain in the world as she bush bashed her way up the East Coast, motivated to join the growing movement and conversations around mental health awareness.

This is Bailey -

The ambitious goal of walking the East Coast of Australia stemmed from her personal journey living with bipolar disorder.

Through adaptation and management, she has developed tools for mental health which can benefit many of us, with hiking & connecting with nature being a major component.

Coupled with a strong desire to provide all she can to others, her dream is to assist with education while encouraging a pragmatic and open attitude surrounding mental health.

A simple idea quickly evolved into her mission with the intention of sharing her story to inspire others & raise funds for mental health.

“The walk is a metaphor of life with bipolar and reflects my own personal journey. It will be tough and long. There will be good days and bad. Uphill battles and downhill slides, with the mentality of just putting one foot in front of the other and taking one day at a time to conquer the bigger goal.”

Bailey’s journey has provided her with the motivation to continue advocacy throughout the mental health space, being engaged with public speaking events to continue the venture into creating a more mentally healthy society, and having a positively impacting others.

Advocacy for Future Generations

Bailey's trek is not only for those currently living with mental health conditions but also for future generations.
She hopes to pave the way for better acceptance, treatments, and management of mental health challenges. By exploring available mental health support resources along the east coast of Australia, she advocates for people to access the help they need.

    3. Reducing Stigmatization: Bailey is on a mission to reduce stigmatization surrounding mental health conditions, fostering a more compassionate and understanding society.

     

    4. Open Conversation: Through her journey, she encourages open conversations about mental health topics that are often difficult to discuss, promoting honesty and comfortability.

The Journal:

“The walk to many, seems impossible to achieve. Just like recovery seems to a person who is diagnosed with a chronic mental health disorder.
I want to show that if you have a mental health condition, that with the right treatment and commitment to surviving the tough times you can aim to achieve great things, both big and small, toward cumulatively having a long fulfilling life irrespective of what path you must walk to get there. “If you just hang in there, day after day, pushing forward, bit by bit, with the love and support that surrounds you, we can all create a life worth living.
